Hello folks! This is going to be a little bit of a shorter than normal solo episode, because I am not at home, nor have I been for the last week, nor will I be for the next one. It’s Podfest! And along with half the team, I am making small talk, presenting a talk, attending networking events and most excitingly of all – officially launching the newest service offering from One Stone Creative. So I’m going to tell you about it today on the Business Podcast Blueprint Show.

So, since starting this podcast, I’ve had to do a little self-reflection. For years I have talked a big game about how critical it is to go out and promote your show if you want anyone to listen to it. And I give plenty of advice on how! Tips, strategies, hacks, the importance of just doing it. Why it’s so critical to go on social and BE social if you want to have any expectation of success there.
And you know what I’ve realized now that we have a show to promote?
This whole time, I’ve been right.
But it sucks so, so much more than I ever imagined.
I have no doubt that there are many, many people who enjoy social media.
I am not one of them. But, I have a podcast and I believe the content is good, and my guests on the show certainly have excellent and valuable information to share, so gosh darn it, I’ll do it.
But surely, it doesn’t have to be as bad as it felt.
I would find myself on release day, pecking out a tweet, but knowing I hadn’t put in the groundwork for it to be appreciated, even though I know what the groundwork is – engaging, liking, commenting, sharing, being there.
But it was really hard to make myself just do it on a consistent basis. I wished “why can’t someone just tell me what to do? And then maybe tell me I did a good job afterwards.”
Ad it hit me – I can tell me what to do. And if I really want someone to tell me what to do, maybe I’m not alone in that, and I can tell other people what to do, and we can get even smarter people to come ant tell us ALL what to do, and we can give each other digital high fives when we go out and do the thing.
That’s not bananas, right? That could work!
And so, the Podcast Social Club was born.
Here’s how it works:
- Every week we meet for an hour to have a mini-lesson on an interesting topic, and do a guided content creation sprint to get a solid start on the text and graphic social shares we’ll use next week.
- Every weekday there is a “Do This” email with specific prompts for LinkedIn Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. All you have to do is go to your accounts, and follow the prompts – you will start to see results.
- You have 24/7 access to a Slack group where you can ask questions, get feedback on your content, receive encouragement if you need it, and generally hang out. You can get this support from fellow members and from the OSC Team – we commit to answering your posts within 24 hours (or less!) Monday to Friday, excluding National holidays (Canada and USA) and the two-week holiday pause at the end of December.
- As we grow the community, we will invite subject matter experts to join us for lectures and trainings and strategies, so we can all continue to learn.

We’ve been running the program for about a month now, with a tiny handful of people to test things out, and I want to tell you how I have found actually following the advice we’ve been giving to other people for years. 😉
It’s been pretty great. I can sit down and write a week’s work of content in about an hour then another 30minutes for graphics. I’ve seen a significant increase in twitter and Instagram engagement, more twitter followers, and more views on my LinkedIn page. I have tested both posting live and prescheduling, which I’ll talk about more in a moment, and most importantly, I haven’t hated it at all. It’s been… kind of fun.
Not every week has been perfect – I don’t always write all the content I intend to, and not every prompt is a perfect fit – but the bottom line is that for a month (except this week I am travelling for Podfest, if I’m honest – it has been wild, and I have not been creating enough content to post!) I have been *consistent* about the work, and it is providing results. They aren’t instant, but they are real, and I am extremely proud of them.
Before I sign off, here is my thinking on content schedulers for social. I’ve always been on the fence about them, because when you schedule all of your posts in advance, you’ve got no reason to be in your accounts engaging with other humans, which is kind of the lynchpin of the whole social media thing. What you get in consistency of posting, you lose in organic connections.
