Should My Podcast Have Its Own Website?

Almost certainly not.

A Separate Website Is Rarely Required for Your Podcast

Should your podcast have its own website?

Almost certainly not.

As you’re starting to plan a new show, one of the things you’ll think about is where on the internet your podcast is going to live. Where are you going to put the episodes? What are you going to point people to when you tell them, “Hey, I’ve got a podcast, you should listen to it?”

You’ll have different pages available to you. Your podcast host will have a page where your podcast lives. You’ll have your Apple and Spotify pages. But many people also wonder if they should have a specific website designed just for their podcast to hold all of their episodes and all of the podcast-related content.

Those can be really helpful if you don’t already have a business website where you’re doing other things, sharing information, and hosting your other content.

For most business owners, you want to integrate your podcast into the website you already have. That’s where you want to send people instead of Apple, Spotify, or any other platforms.

You want listeners going to your website to consume your content so that when they decide, “Hey, I really like what I’m hearing or seeing. I need to get on the phone with these people,” they’re already in the right place.

They can opt in, call you, read another blog post, or find out about your services. It’s all in the environment that you already own.

There might be cases where you don’t want your podcast associated with your main business website. If it’s a side project, something experimental, or a little off-brand, you might want a new domain and a separate website to keep some distance between those parts of your business.

But if your podcast is connected to what you generally do for work, you want everything in one place as much as possible.

Investing time, money, and infrastructure in building a whole new site usually isn’t worth the effort. It could actually prevent you from generating sales, growing your email list, or achieving the other goals you hope your podcast will support.
