Increase Your Podcast’s Discoverability with a Transcript
If your podcast is in audio or video, why would you want a transcript to go along with it?
If you’ve got a podcast that you’ve been doing for a while and you always have your audio or video episodes, having a transcript as well, especially one that is edited by a human, might feel like an excessive amount of work for an unclear amount of value. But there’s some really good reasons you might wanna consider having a written version of your podcast as well.
Not the least of which is that almost 60 % of the top 100 business podcasts do include a transcript with their finished episodes.
Having a transcript adds a whole new method of communication to your podcast. You’ve got your audio, your video, and now you’ve also got the written word. And there’s a lot of reasons this can be really valuable for your business. The first of which is accessibility. There are some people who don’t or can’t listen. Or who don’t or can’t watch, and who are going to be able to read or consume the written word in a way that’s gonna be easier for them. And if you do want to reach as many people as possible, then making it accessible in as many versions as possible is absolutely the way to go.
And accessibility, of course, is most important for humans, but it’s also important for the internet infrastructure that we find ourselves in. Text is very often and for many tools easier to use, to search, to source and to cite by different generative AI tools, Google search robots or whoever else on the internet is looking to find and refer your content. When you have it organized in your audio, video and text, you’re making it as easy as possible for as many people as possible to find your show.
So if search discoverability, repurposing and accessibility are goals for your podcast, then having a fully edited transcript can be a really valuable addition. And if you’ve got other things that are more important, for example just getting the content out there, relationship building or networking, and the written searchability aspect isn’t as important – even an unedited transcript is going to possibly push you over the line to be discovered a little bit more.
So it’s usually worth investing in one way or the other.
