They call podcasts the magic calendar opener.
Almost everyone is going to say yes to an invitation to appear on a podcast. But if you’re looking for guests, where do you find them?
Listen Now:
As podcasts are getting more and more common and they keep growing in popularity, more and more people are becoming familiar with the concept of being a podcast guest.
And as I said, most people are thrilled to be invited to a show, and it doesn’t matter how big it is or how new it is, just the invitation is a compliment, and that’s a really nice way to open a relationship.
If you’re struggling to find the right type of people for your show, there’s a couple of ways you can go about doing it.
First, one of my favorite strategies is to look at similar, complimentary business or competing business podcasts that also have guests. The guests on those shows are probably going to have information that’s useful to your audience as well. They could be great professional connections for you. And you know that they like being a guest on podcasts.
There’s also usually contact information in their episodes, either in the episode itself or in the show notes. So that’s one of my best strategies for getting new guests for a show, who’s guesting on other podcasts that are being built for a similar market. Great strategy there.
You can also go with your colleagues and friends and family. If you’ve got people who are great referral partners or again, complimentary business owners, ask them who should be on your show.
Most people are really thrilled to make an introduction too and to give someone the opportunity to be a guest on a podcast. That’s a lovely, warm thing to be doing.
Similarly, on LinkedIn, who’s writing about the type of content that makes you think they’d be a good fit?
The same type of research you do for anything else in your business, your competitor research, your new product research, your client research, all of those are going to turn up people and experts who are saying things and doing things, who could be great guests for your show.
So don’t be shy about reaching out, even if you don’t know somebody.
Like I said before -“will you be on my podcast?” is a really nice way to start a relationship.
Most people are going to say yes, and even if they say no, they’re not going to be mad about it.
